Designed to build Internet trust and confidence, WebTrust raises the bar for e-commerce businesses.

The WebTrust Seal is a unique seal of assurance which has been developed jointly by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to break down the barriers to e-commerce by assuring online customers that businesses carrying the Seal adhere to standard business and information practices and controls.

The WebTrust Seal is awarded to a web site that evidences compliance to WebTrust Principles and Criteria. When clicked, the Seal links to the WebTrust Audit Report, and various management and professional documents and disclosures.

WebTrust principles address seven broad categories:

1. Privacy
2. Security
3. Business Practices and Transaction Integrity
4. Availability
5. Confidentiality
6. Non-Repudiation

Only CAs/CPAs who have completed training and have been licensed by the CICA or AICPA are qualified to issue the WebTrust Seal. Training, certification and licensing ensure consistent application of the WebTrust Principles and related Criteria.
